OLGETM - Outlook Get Messages 1/18/98 - Version 1.2c1 1) improved cpu utilization 2) cleaned some debug code left 6/12/97 - Version 1.2c New features added: 1) Send in separate thread 2) ability to configure through the "About OLGETM" menu item 3) ini file to hold parameters 4) ability to combine options in different configurations 5) able to set polling time while using a dun to your isp - in its own thread 6) menu options for those using IE4 beta 7) runs under IE4 beta but no toolbar buttons; however polling makes it automatic and easy 8) separate send and retrieve buttons if desired 9) Splash screen can be turned off or on 10) able to kill polling 11) able to set polling to do just retrieve messages or to both retrieve and send 12) no more flying envelopes; notification is in the system tray Known Limitations: 1) does not use the "Check for New Mail On...." dialog info 2) on some systems (not all and who knows why) using proprietary transports only one or two services may get flushed (on my systems it flushes through 2 internet email providers, and an original written one) 3) no toolbar buttons on IE4 4) on switching views to calendar; get button image changes to send button, cosmetic change as no functions are affected -- bothersome Next version possibilities: While I doubt at the moment a version 2 (must do the 'bread and butter' work and only if MS doesn't deliver something equivalent). I have thought of the following: 1) "Check for New Mail On..." functionality 2) tray icon to show how many waiting msgs in the outbox to go 3) incoming tray icon to show at what msg of how many msgs data 4) true MsoCommandBar features 5) ?? you tell me ?? 6/5/97 - Version 1.2b - interim build 5/16/97 - Inital Version 1.0.0.0 Separate thread for downloading messages in the background. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: This is a release of my Outlook Get Messages without making me wait to look at em program. There is no time-out and it is fully functional. It has saved me hours already. To install it, copy all the programs to your addin sub-directory. This will usually be C:\msoffice\office\addins, you may have to change the drive letter to reflect your setup. Run the addolg program. This just brings up a dialog box in which you double-click first on what drive you installed olgetm.dll on. Then continue double-clicking on the sub-directorys until your path in the edit box matches where you copied these files. Then click the OK button. You will now be able to start Outlook with the extension enabled. I use this routine as an easier way of adding registry entries without having to merge and hand-edit the reg files. Copy the olgetm.ini file to your windows subdirectory. REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS: To remove the extension for whatever reason you do TWO things. In Outlook go to Tools then Options then General then click on Add-In Manager. Click on E-Mail Retriever and then click on remove. Exit Outlook. Then run the remolg.exe program to verify that the registry key is also removed. If it is present, you can safely remove it. USAGE: To use the program, just click on the new button on the toolbar. It starts a separate download thread. You will notice that once you start downloading that you are able to view, delete, 3-pane, and edit messages while downloading. It uses the inherited profile from your current active session. If you change the number of tool buttons, the change does not take effect until after restarting Outlook. FILES: The programs included and what they do are: addolg.exe - sets up the registry to point to where you copied olgetm.dll remolg.exe - safely removes any registry entries pertaining to olgetm olgetm.dll - the extension itself olgetm.ini - copy this file to your windows subdirectory olgetm.txt - this file LIMITATIONS: The license to use this program is free and has no warranty or fitness of purpose or guarantee.
